About The Role
We are seeking a full-time, remote Junior UI/UX Designer to join our dynamic team supporting a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) project. In this role, you will apply Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles to develop intuitive, accessible, and user-friendly applications. You will collaborate closely with business analysts, developers, and stakeholders to translate complex requirements into effective design solutions. Your work will ensure that applications are not only functional but also accessible in accordance with Section 508 standards, enhancing usability for all users, including those with disabilities. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a passionate designer to contribute to meaningful government projects while advancing their skills in a supportive environment.

- •Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), or a related field
- •Minimum of 2 years of proven experience as a UI/UX Designer with a strong portfolio demonstrating user-centered and accessible design work
- •Strong understanding of Human-Centered Design (HCD) principles
- •Experience designing accessible interfaces supporting Section 508 compliance
- •Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Figma
- •Experience working within Agile development environments with iterative feedback cycles
- •Ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams and translate user needs into effective design solutions
- •Familiarity with VA Digital Service guidelines and the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS)
- •Experience supporting federal or government projects (VA, DHA, HHS, etc.)
- •Knowledge of design systems, design tokens, and scalable UI frameworks
- •Experience with additional tools such as Axure, Miro, Mural, Jira, or Confluence
- •Experience supporting accessibility audits, testing, or remediation efforts
- •Collaborate with Business Analysts, developers, and stakeholders to translate requirements into intuitive design solutions
- •Create wireframes, mockups, and prototypes using tools like Figma to communicate design concepts effectively
- •Translate complex workflows into accessible, user-friendly interfaces
- •Contribute to and maintain comprehensive design systems, UI patterns, and documentation
- •Conduct user research, usability testing, and data analysis to inform and refine designs
- •Formulate research-driven questions to support indirect user discovery when direct access is limited
- •Synthesize research insights into actionable design improvements to enhance user experience
- •Design applications in compliance with Section 508 accessibility standards and best practices
- •Serve as an accessibility resource for teams, including developers and testers, providing guidance and support
- •Support accessibility testing, audits, and remediation efforts to ensure compliance and usability
- •Translate accessibility requirements and findings into clear, actionable guidance for project teams
- •Work within Agile teams, incorporating iterative feedback to continuously improve designs
- •Perform additional tasks as needed to support project success and team objectives
