UI/UX Designer — Digital Platform & Mobile App Project-Based Independent Contractor | Minimum 10-20 hrs/week | Remote About Laprea Education Laprea Education is an innovative educational publishing and EdTech company dedicated to empowering learners through beautifully designed, evidence-based digital experiences. We are building the new Developing Decoders Digital Platform and a new Developing Decoders Mobile App, two products that will transform the way learners engage with foundational literacy and decoding skills. We believe great design is inseparable from great learning. We are looking for a talented UI/UX Designer who shares that belief and is eager to help us bring these products to life. The Opportunity This is a project-based independent contractor role with an initial commitment of a minimum of 10-20 hours per week. As our UI/UX Designer, you will serve as the creative and user-experience lead across both the Developing Decoders Digital Platform (web) and the Developing Decoders Mobile App (iOS/Android). You will work closely with our product and curriculum teams to create intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling experiences for learners, educators, and families. This is a ground-floor opportunity to shape the look, feel, and flow of two flagship products from the earliest stages of development. What You Will Do Lead end-to-end UX design for the Developing Decoders Digital Platform and Mobile App, from discovery through delivery Conduct user research, usability testing, and competitive analysis to inform design decisions Create wireframes, user flows, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for web and mobile experiences Develop and maintain a cohesive design system and component library that ensures visual consistency across platforms Collaborate with curriculum specialists to ensure the design supports and enhances the learning experience Iterate rapidly based on feedback from internal stakeholders and end users Deliver design assets and detailed specifications to development partners Participate in regular check-ins and design reviews with the Laprea Education team What We Are Looking For Required: A strong portfolio demonstrating beautiful, functional UI/UX design work for web and/or mobile applications Proficiency in Figma (or comparable design tools such as Adobe XD or Sketch) Experience designing responsive web interfaces and native or cross-platform mobile apps A solid understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly articulate design decisions Ability to work independently, manage your own time, and meet project milestones Preferred (but not required): Prior experience designing for EdTech, K-12 education, or literacy/learning apps — this is a meaningful plus Familiarity with designing for child and/or family audiences Experience working within an early-stage or startup product environment Basic understanding of front-end development constraints (HTML/CSS awareness helpful) TALL Stack experience a plus React Native experience a plus Engagement Details Type: Independent Contractor (Project-Based) Hours: Minimum 10-20 hours per week Location: Remote Start Date: To be determined based on candidate availability Compensation: Competitive — commensurate with experience How to Apply To apply, please prepare the following: A brief introduction telling us about yourself and why this role excites you A link to your portfolio or selected work samples (web and/or mobile preferred) Your resume or LinkedIn profile Your availability and desired hourly rate We review applications on a rolling basis and will reach out to candidates whose work and experience align with our needs.
