Product Designer

📄Description

About Us

Scotch is building the next-generation operating system for beverage alcohol retailers — combining POS, payments, back office, and e-commerce into a platform purpose-built for liquor stores.

We’re modernizing one of the oldest industries in the world: the $1.6T beverage alcohol market. Our platform helps retailers run more efficiently through streamlined payments, inventory management, reporting, and day-to-day operations.

Our founders came from Skupos (acquired 2023) and Drizly (acquired by Uber). We've raised $28M from VMG Partners, First Round, Lerer Hippeau, Watchfire, and Toba Capital, with angels including the founder of Drizly and early Toast executives. Forbes has recognized Scotch as a leader in liquor retail tech. We closed a $20M Series A in 2026 off 500%+ YoY growth and $1B+ in processed payment volume.

Position Overview

We're looking for a Product Designer to own key parts of Scotch's web-based back office, which store owners and managers use to run their business. You'll focus on how merchants manage customer orders, transactions, payments, and integrations, both the experiences that exist today and the new ones we build next. This isn't a role where you get handed requirements and asked for wireframes. You'll lead research with merchants and use what you learn to shape what we build, whether that means improving existing workflows or designing new ones.

The work spans money, data, and partner systems, so clarity and trust matter as much as polish. Merchants need to understand where their money is, what their numbers mean, and how the tools they use connect to Scotch. You'll be the thought partner to our product managers and engineering team, pushing back on over-specified solutions and surfacing problems we didn't think to ask about.

If you're energized by ambiguity, motivated by real user impact, and excited about AI's role in both the products you design and your own workflow, this is a great fit.

Why Scotch?

Scotch is an equal opportunity employer. We value diverse perspectives and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.

  • •Own the design of how merchants manage customer orders, transactions, payments, and integrations in the back office, both the experiences that exist today and the new ones we build next.
  • •Lead discovery with store owners and managers through interviews, usability testing, and in-store visits when possible, and turn what you learn into clear design decisions.
  • •Make complex information easy to understand and act on, from payouts and fees to sales reports and transaction histories.
  • •Design clear experiences for connecting and managing partner integrations, so merchants trust how their tools work together.
  • •Design responsive experiences that work well on mobile and tablet, so merchants can check their business away from a desktop.
  • •Partner closely with product managers to define requirements and challenge assumptions. Be the voice that asks "Did we solve the right problem?" before we ask "Did we build it right?"
  • •Collaborate with engineers to bring designs to life faithfully, stay curious about frontend capabilities, and help drive our evolving AI-assisted design and build loop.
  • •Contribute to and help evolve our design system, establishing patterns for data-heavy views like tables, filters, and detail pages.
  • •Collaborate with other designers across back office and in-store experiences so Scotch feels like one product.
  • •Participate in the full product lifecycle, including roadmap conversations and post-launch iteration.
  • •Bring a point of view, not just execution.
  • •4+ years of product/UX design experience in a startup or fast-moving environment.
  • •Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end work, including research, problem framing, and shipped product.
  • •Experience designing data-heavy web products, such as dashboards, reports, or transaction views, that stay clear as complexity grows.
  • •Experience designing responsive experiences that work across desktop, tablet, and mobile.
  • •Strong visual and interaction design skills. You sweat the details that matter for users and know when to push and when to ship.
  • •A skilled researcher who can plan discovery, synthesize findings quickly, and turn ambiguous problems into clear design direction.
  • •Experience partnering closely with PMs and pushing back constructively. You help define the problem, not just solve it.
  • •You think in systems, not screens, and care about patterns, consistency, and how designs scale.
  • •Comfortable working alongside engineers in a fast-moving R&D environment and understanding implementation constraints.
  • •Proficient with Figma and Claude, and able to prototype quickly to test assumptions and communicate behavior
  • •Experience designing complex B2B or operational workflows (retail, logistics, or similar).
  • •Experience designing integrations, settings, or configuration flows that connect with third-party tools.
  • •Familiarity with design systems—building them, maintaining them, and getting others to use them.
  • •You actively use AI tools in your own workflow and are excited to design AI-assisted experiences that feel human and intentional.
  • •Some exposure to frontend development or a strong mental model of how the design-to-build handoff works.
  • •Compensation: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $150,000-$160,000. Individual offers are based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, qualifications, and internal equity.
  • •Competitive equity package
  • •Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • •Unlimited flexible PTO
  • •[Travel expenses fully covered]
  • •A real product with real users: your design decisions affect store managers navigating live operational complexity every day.
  • •True design ownership: you’ll shape the product, not just execute on specs.
  • •A tight-knit engineering and product team that takes design seriously
