Bitcoin Within Design

Job Description

As the Design Lead for bitcoin, you will define how bitcoin shapes experiences across our ecosystem, envisioning how bitcoin can bridge our brands and networks. You will lead design across:buying and sending in Cash App, accepting payments with Square, securing self‑custody with Bitkey, and decentralizing the bitcoin mining network through Proto hardware and software.

Reporting to our Chief Design Officer, you will lead flagship product initiatives and partner with leaders across design, research, engineering, data, legal, and operations to set strategy and ship with quality. You will collaborate closely with industrial designers to deliver best-in-class hardware products. You will start with a small, senior team of product designers, then grow and mentor the group to meet the needs of our expanding bitcoin roadmap.

You will

Be accountable for the craft, clarity, and quality of experiences that you and your team ship to customers.

Shape and uphold design standards that define excellence for our Bitcoin ecosystem—across mobile, web, and emerging platforms.

Be a strategic voice alongside Product, Engineering, and Business leaders to influence and execute on company-level priorities, and champion design's role in advancing access to Bitcoin.

Work with peers and leadership across Cash App and Square to collaborate on features and messaging that connect our ecosystem.

Collaborate with Creative counterparts to launch campaigns that drive business impact for our Bitcoin ecosystem

Build and lead an inclusive, high-performing design organization that fosters experimentation, learning, and creative growth, while advocating for the thoughtful integration of AI to enhance design quality and innovation.

Establish and evolve the principles, frameworks, and processes that guide the design discipline—grounded in transparency, collaboration, and decentralized thinking.

Be a trusted voice at the leadership table, aligning design decisions with our Bitcoin mission and broader Block vision.

Act as an influential partner across other disciplines (Marketing, Customer Support, People) to ensure a cohesive customer and brand experience.

Champion inclusion, diversity, and equitable access as core values within the team.

Stay connected to the work—mentoring designers, providing taste-based critique, and ensuring execution meets our company's bar of excellence.

You have

Proven experience as a senior design leader who has scaled and inspired teams to deliver transformative, strategic design outcomes in complex, technical domains.

Expertise in shaping product strategy and design systems that balance craft and speed—particularly within decentralized finance, Bitcoin, or digital payments.

A strong eye for systems, visual design, and interaction craft, with the ability to elevate creativity to meet measurable goals.

A comfort and fluency in technical environments, including mobile and blockchain client-side development processes.

A clear point of view on design direction—paired with openness to new ideas and a commitment to transparent communication.

Deep empathy for customers and passion for creating accessible, intuitive experiences that advance financial freedom.

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
